Research Activities:
Studies on various aspects of malaria biology; focussing on asexual stages including proteins of the merozoite surface, the rhoptry and the molecular motor.
Vaccine studies including improved methods of delivery, DNA vaccination, oral immunization, transgenic plants, viral delivery. GMP production of recombinant proteins for human clinical trials.
Studies on mycobacteria including M. avium, M. smegmatis. Pathways of bacterial cell wall synthesis, host-pathogen biology including mycobacteria in macrophages, identification of genes involved in resisting phagocytosis.
